Beneficial plants for the garden June 12, 1999 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
A friend of mine borriwed this book often, so I bought them a copy for their birthday. It showed me many ways to reduce pests in my garden, using companion planting, and without using pesticides. I love the mix of pretty flowers and herbs among my vegetable plants. It also offered great ideas for plant spacing within the garden.
Informative and easy to read. October 30, 2001 Ronald Albury (Cincinnati, OH USA) 30 out of 34 found this review helpful
I bought several books on this topic, and this book is my absolute favorite. Well written, easy to understand, fun to read.
Wonderful Gardening Book May 31, 2006 A. Huff (Corydon, IN) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book is a must have for any gardener!
While I have always enjoyed gardening, it seemed the bugs always ate up my veggies before I could! This book teaches you all about plant "families", and which herbs and flowers are "friends" to the families. It is also very informative on plant diseases, insects, and what nature-friendly things we can do to help.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in companion gardening, organic garden, or just wants to grow something!
Great book for garden newbies March 9, 2007 K. Edwards 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Although I have been gardening for a few years, this is the first year that I am going all organic. This book is a great basic introduction to vegetable gardening with flowers. The idea that nature balances itself by creating a good predator to prey ratio is key to an organic garden. This book is easy to read, packed full of great information and most importantly, easy to reference.
Wonderful and easy to understand October 2, 2006 Brandi Downs (Marion, OH USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
After reading several other books and articles on companion gardening, I purchased "Great Garden Companions." What a breath of fresh air! Sally Jean Cunningham writes in a lovely, conversational manner that makes the vast amount of information she provides easy to understand. The anecdotes she offers are very helpful, and I love the fact that she's offered the plan of her own garden for all of her readers to see. If you're like me, you always want to know just what is in a writer's garden, and Ms. Cunningham lets it all out in the open. The pictures are beautiful too!
There are also several tables in this book that break down the information and make it easy to find when you want to go back to reference things. I can't wait until spring so I can put all of Ms. Cunningham's great ideas into practice.
